Nik Boxall shows Iron Will
Watford Jaguar Business Manager, Nik Boxall has raised £1900 for the British Heart Foundation when he competed in the Ironman Event in Regensburg, Germany.
He joined 1800 other athletes to tackle the 2.4 mile swim, followed by a 112 mile cycle and a 26 mile run. Amazingly, Nick, who was representing Watford Jaguar and Watford David Lloyd Triathlon Club, finished the event in just over 13 hours.
Nik, who took up the sport three years ago, said: “It was a great event with what seemed like the whole of Germany getting involved.
“The swim was particularly tough, although the cycle was mentally and physically straining and included the longest hill I’ve ever climbed. It was only when I got to the top that I could take in and appreciate the breath taking scenery.
“Whilst climbing it I didn’t see much more than a speedometer reading 8mph! Going down the other side was a similar view only this time the speedometer read 45 mph!
“I think of myself as more of a runner than a swimmer or cyclist so despite 1 hour 16 in the water and nearly 7 hours on the bike, I couldn’t actually wait for the run to begin. The final lap of 4 was amazing and I made an effort to thank the supporters and stewards along the route.”
Watford Jaguar supplies Watford David Lloyd Triathlon Club with all its kit to wear at various events throughout the year. To find out more about the Trathlon Club visit their website @ http://www.watfordtriclub.webeden.co.uk/
Mike Dodds, Dealer Principal at Watford Jaguar, said: “This was a tremendous effort by Nik and we are particularly proud that he was able to raise money for such a very worthy cause.”
